Building The Machine

This blog chronicles my process of building a CNC router and large-format printer (aka The Machine). A CNC (Computer Numerical Control) router utilizes a computer and precision motors to guide a router across an XY plane cutting designs into a planar surface such as a piece of particleboard. (This is an oversimplification as there is movement of the tool in a vertical Z-axis as well.) I hope to use the machine to both cut and apply color (print). The Machine was conceived while preparing for a photography show. When ordering large prints, I soon realized I wanted control of the process along with the ability to print on various mediums such as wood, metal, and paper.
